Happy Holidays!

No matter your beliefs (or non-beliefs) we wish you a happy holiday season. At the moment, all (three) of us at Getaway Reads celebrate Christmas, so we’ve naturally got an eye on gift-giving at this time of year, specifically as it pertains to eReaders.

Everywhere you look, some news outlet or retail store will tell you an eReader is the gift to give yourself or your loved ones.

Well, who are we to disagree?

Collectively, our staff reads on kindle, Nook, and the kindle app for PC. And we all have our reasons for our choices and each of us would be happy to expound on the benefits.

But we’ll let those media outlets with their handy tables and charts go over the pros and cons.

For us, the bottom line is what you put on your preferred eReader. Of course you should keep reading your favorite authors. But we encourage you to investigate indie authors and those who write for smaller presses too.

Ebooks are changing the publishing game and having more talented authors to choose from with bargain-priced books is a boon for everyone – no matter how you like to read!

Happy Halloween!

Sure, we’re a tad early – but we’re not playing Christmas music or anything – just embracing the month of fun spookiness!

Regan Black is our first author and since she focuses on paranormal romance as well as lighthearted fantasy we figured it’s okay to spend the month thinking about spooky stuff.

Besides, it’s what we want to do and we’re in charge.

There’s so much that’s fun about the spooky stuff – that must be why there’s a whole genre of paranormal…from horror to thriller to romance.

Regan’s books tend to the futuristic thriller side with a yummy dose of romance thrown in. If you haven’t read Veil of Justice, now might just be the right time!

Independence Day

Well, almost.

Here at Getaway Reads we celebrate the independence of authors and readers every day!

Sure the big six publishers put out awesome books, but we believe an independent author is capable of creating awesome books too.

Whatever you’re in the mood to read on your getaway this summer, be sure to visit Kindle and Smashwords.com to find a new-to-you author to take along.

At these sites you can shop by genre or even (at Amazon in particular) by recommendations based on earlier purchases.

At Getaway Reads we set our prices to encourage readers to take a risk on new authors knowing that offering an excellent story at a reasonable price means more satisfied readers.

Getaway Reads is pleased to announce we’ve been making steady progress in our new indie publishing venture. We’re happy to introduce our first featured author, Regan Black!

We applaud Ms. Black’s dedication to her indie books and promotional efforts and Getaway Reads will feature more authors of a similar mindset soon.

Ms. Black is an award winning author of the Shadows of Justice novels as well as a lighthearted fantasy series of short stories geared toward younger readers known as the Hobbitville Saga.

Hobbitville saga #3, Breaking New Ground will be released by Getaway Reads next month on Kindle and Smashwords.com.

The Beginning

Getaway Reads launched in April of 2010, the brainchild of an author, editor, and marketing expert.

As an independent, by-invitation-only publisher, our goal is to offer  entertaining stories to readers – you know those books that let you escape the daily grind and make you feel like you went on vacation.

Novels, novellas, or short stories, we want readers to experience the  delight of a ‘getaway’ without the expense of airline baggage fees.

Starting with Amazon’s kindle and Smashwords.com, Getaway Reads will be bringing more books to market in more venues in the months to come…
